Abstract
574,896. Centrifugal separators. BROWNLOW, R. S. May 31, 1944, Nos. 10474/44 and 4625/45. [Class 23] Liquid, containing solid matter, is forced into a container 1, through a pipe 16, the liquid passing inwards through filters 12 to hollow screws 13 leading to a hollow extension 11 of a rotary shaft 4 driven by a pulley 7. Solid matter is flung from the surfaces of the filters, under centrifugal action, and falls to the bottom of the container, from which it can be removed. Radial rods 18 agitate the liquid in the container. The filters may be porous pots, built up of piles of discs, or consist of closelycoiled wire. In a modification, the filters are arranged with their axes parallel with the axis of the shaft. The first Provisional Specification states that the discs may be of stainless steel, and the container 1 revolve around a stationary pile of filters.
