Abstract

589,511. Oil seals. WESTON & CO., Ltd., C., and BUSH, R. E. March 23, 1945, No. 7345. [Class 122 (v)] An oil seal comprises a ring 18 of oil-resistant artificial rubber mounted in a recess 16 in a plate 12, and an antifriction bearing 13 which is larger than and closes the recess. The ring 18 is under slight radial compression and makes contact with the shaft 14 at 20 in substantially linear engagement. An annular groove 22 spaces the portion 21 from the radially - outer part of the ring. The periphery of the ring is chamfered at 25 to facilitate lubrication of the bearing via the passage. 24.
