588,950. Indicating liquid levels. KAMMER, F., WOOD, H., and PLESSEY CO., Ltd., Feb. 17, 1945, No. 4035. [Class 123 (i)] [Also in Groups XXXV, XXXVII and XXXVIII] A liquid level indicator comprises a thermal relay switch, which remains inoperative when submerged in liquid, and electric signalling means connected in the switch circuit, the switch being actuated when exposed by the fall in liquid level. A single switch, Fig. 2, may be used as a low level indicator. Heat generated in coil 18 is conducted away by the liquid when the switch is submerged but when the coil is exposed, bimetal strip 17 heats up and closes contacts 16, 19, thus shorting out resistor 20 and giving an indication on meter 22. Indicators having switches placed at different levels in the tank are described in Group XXXVIII.
