588,821. Electrically - propelled vehicles. MORRISON, A. E., and MORRISON, A. C. Feb. 1, 1944, No. 1844. [Class 79 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A front wheel suspension for an electricallydriven road vehicle comprises pairs of obliquelyarranged wheel-supporting members 6, 7 converging from points adjacent the front wheels practically to the central longitudinal axis of the vehicle where the members are mounted on a girder 9 or the like adapted to be removably attached to the front of the vehicle, the girder serving also to carry a motor-controller 18 and ancillary parts such as the steering mechanism and pedals 16, 17. As shown, the members 6, 7 are constituted by two rigid, channel-section arms, hinged at their inner ends on pivots 8 to the central portion of the girder 9 and universally jointed at their outer ends to the front axle component 2 by means of ball-ended pins 10 on the axle engaging sockets 11 on the arms. In each of the upper arms 6, a leaf-spring 12 is accommodated, its forward end pressing on a pad 13 arranged in the arm over the corresponding ball-and-socket and its rear end being rigidly secured to the girder 9. The wheels are steered in conventional manner by a, steering wheel 3 through a drag link 4 and a track rod 5 connecting the two stub-axles. The springs, however, may be associated with the lower arms or with both sets of arms or, alternatively, the upper and/or lower arms may be constituted by springs.
