Abstract

588,664. Knitting-machines. LAMBACH, F. Oct. 18, 1944, No. 20172. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1943. [Class 74 (ii)] The main cam-shaft 12 of a knitting-machine (e.g., a warp knitting machine) may be rotated either by an electromotor 14 or by a hand wheel shaft 38 through a clutch, the control mechanism of which is associated with the motor switch 78, so that the clutch is automatically engaged or disengaged as the motor is switched off or on. The motor drives the shaft 12 through a belt 16 and disc 18. The slidable member of the clutch is keyed to the shaft 38 and a freely rotatable co-acting member bears a pinion 30 meshing with an idler gear 28 secured to a sprocket 24 which drives the shaft 12 through a chain 22 and sprocket 20. A switch rod 72 is axially rotatable between two extreme positions, and is connected to the switch by an arm 80 and connecting rod 82. A cam slot in the curved surface of a cylinder 70 on rod 72 rocks a clutchoperating lever 54, to disengage the clutch when the rod 72 is rotated to close the switch, and vice versa.
