Abstract

593,147. Knitting-machines. BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and DEANS, F. E. Jan. 31, 1945, No. 2402. [Class 74 (ii)] A clutch mechanism for a circular machine comprises a thrust transmitter 14 which can be interposed between a thrust face 12 and a cam 10 to cause engagement of a clutch 4, 7. As shown, a second set of parts is provided so that the shaft 1 can be coupled either to a continuously rotating pinion 2 or to a pinion 3 driven by the usual oscillating quadrant. The thrust transmitters are controlled by pattern mechanism and are spring loaded so that after operating the clutch, a thrust transmitter (e.g. 13) drops between the thrust face and the end of the clutch member (as shown) to prevent disengagement of the clutch.
