Abstract
1,116,625. Knitting-machimes. BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. 12 Aug., 1965 [15 Sept., 1964], No. 37570/64. Heading DIC. [Also in Division F2] The quadrant gear 1, Fig. 1 is oscillated by cams 5a, 5b which are mounted on a shaft 6 and coupled thereto and driven thereby only during the period in which reciprocatory knitting is performed. During continuous rotary knitting the connection between the shaft 6 and the cams 5a, 5b is broken and the quadrant gear remains stationary. Secured to the continuously driven shaft 6 is collar 9 having a groove 9a, Fig. 2, in which a latch member 12 can engage. The member 12 is pivoted on a member 5c integral with the cams 5a, 5b, so that when the latch member 12 is engaged with the collar 9 a drive connection is made between the shaft 6 and the cams. The latch member, opposite the collar engaging end, supports a rod 13, which projects through slots in the cams and engages in an inclined slot 15 in a component 16, Fig. 3, freely mounted on the hub 5 of the cams. Pivoted movement of the component 16 causes it to lift or lower the rod 13 as it rides up or down the slot 15 and bring the opposite end out of and into engagement with the collar 9. Consequently, by the provision of an arm 24a pivotably mounted on the outside of the frame 8 and selectively operated from a control drum on the machine it can be caused to engage or disengage the component 16 to cause its movement or permit its return movement by a spring 18 whereby the latch member 12 disengages or engages the collar 9 and effects the disengagement or engagement of the drive to the cams.
