Abstract

588,644. Inductances. FOSTER TRANSFORMERS & SWITCHGEAR, Ltd., and BROOKS, H. H. March 2, 1945, No. 5210. [Class 38 (ii)] A variable inductor, such as may be used as an arc-welding regulator, has a laminated core comprising two U - members 4, 4 clamped between bars 5, and a movable central section 7, which is guided by the engagement of the projecting edges of a non-magnetic insertion 9 in slots formed by the separation of the halves of members 4, 4 by non-magnetic sheets 10. Section 7 is moved longitudinally by rotation of a hand wheel 13, mounted in a non- crystalline cross-bar 14 to reduce any vibrations which are not prevented by the frictional restraint imposed by the close engagement of the edges of strip 9 by the members 4, 4, and non-magnetic sheets 10. The pressure of the latter may be adjusted by screws 11 or eccentrics on the clamping screws in holes 6. The. slots may be in the movable part 7.
