Abstract
588,136. Crop-cutting machines. SCOTT, A .P. March 3, 1944, No. 1859/43. [Class 6 (iii)] An agricultural crop-cutting implement comprises a bar 10 fitted with fingers 11 and with a pair of sprocket wheels 14, 15, an endless chain 16 fitted around the wheels and adapted to circulate in a horizontal plane, a cover plate 19 common to the two flights of chain, spaced knife elements 18 on the chain for co-operating with the fingers, and a track 20 for guiding that flight adjoining the fingers. In the construction shown the shaft of sprocket wheel 15 also carries a driving pinion 17. The direction of travel of the chain may be reversible and the cutting edges of the knife elements may be so formed as to enable the knives to cut in each direction of travel.
