Abstract

A stable aqueous dispersion comprises salicylanilide, polyvinyl alcohol and an aliphatic hydrocarbon. The hydrocarbons specified are refined petroleum oils and waxes of the paraffinic or cyclo-aliphatic types or mixtures thereof, and preferably have a boiling point above 110 DEG C. Cationic surface agents, water-soluble salts of polyvalent metals such as aluminium acetate and aluminium formate or combinations of the two classes may be added to the dispersions.ALSO:A mildew-proofing agent consists of a stable aqueous dispersion which comprises salicylanilide, polyvinyl alcohol and an aliphatic hydrocarbon and may be prepared by emulsifying the hydrocarbon in an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution and adding pulverized salicylanilide thereto. Alternatively the salicylanilide may first be dispersed in the polyvinyl alcohol solution followed by the hydrocarbon, or the salicylanilide may be mixed with the hydrocarbon and the mixture dispersed in the polyvinyl alcohol solution. The hydrocarbons specified are refined petroleum oils and waxes of the paraffinic or cycloaliphatic types or mixtures thereof, and preferably have a boiling point above 110 DEG C. Cationic surface agents, water soluble salts of polyvalent metals such as aluminium acetate and aluminium formate or combinations of the two classes may be added to the dispersions. Temperatures up to 95 DEG C. may be employed such that the hydrocarbons are in the liquid state during emulsification.
