Abstract

679,399. Fungicides. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. April 26, 1950 [July 21, 1949], No. 10297/50. Class 81 (i). A fungicidal composition in the form of a pourable, stable, concentrated suspension, comprises a solid fungicidal material dispersed in finely divided state in a hydrocarbon oil of viscosity between 0.8 and 3,000 centipoises at 20‹ C., of boiling range which does not begin below about 100‹ C., and substantially free from phytocidal properties, the fungicidal material being insoluble or only slightly soluble in the said oil, a non-ionic dispersing agent, and a small quantity of water sufficient to make them readily pourable. The solid fungicide is ground with the oil and the dispersing agent is added to the mixture preferably before grinding. The water may be added before, during or after grinding to improve the pourabllity of the product, which may contain 40 to 60 per cent fungicide. Ionic emulsifiers such as mineral oil sulphonates and salts of acid sulphuric alkyl esters and alkali metal salts of polybasic carboxylic acids e.g. sodium citrate may be added. The preferred nonionic dispersing agents are condensation products of ethylene oxide with alkyl phenols. Suitable hydrocarbon oils are white oil, spindle oil and similar highly refined lubricating oils. The fungicide may be e.g. copper 8 hydroxy quinolate, copper oxychloride, cuprous oxide and thiuram disulphides. Specification 628,766 is referred to.
