Abstract

Textile materials are treated with liquids containing furfuryl alcohol or its homologues, esters, ethers, or salts. Urea may be added to stabilize the alcohol. Pigments, dyes, resins, fats, oils, or waxes may be dispersed in aqueous or other solutions by means of this reagent and then applied to the textiles. The reagent may be used in admixture with chlorinated hydrocarbons or other textile assistants. Textiles may be washed free from oils, fats, and other substances by treatment with this reagent which may be used together with soap solutions, turkey red oil, or alcohol sulphonates. Furfuryl acetate and ricinoleate are specified esters. In an example, furfuryl alcohol and soap are mixed to form a water soluble preparation capable of dissolving hydrocarbon oils and of forming stable oil-water emulsions. These emulsions are used for treating textiles. In another example, textiles containing fat or oil are washed with an aqueous solution of the cyclo-hexylamine salt of oleic alcohol sulphuric ester containing furfuryl alcohol. The prior use of tetrahydro-furfuryl alcohol is referred to.ALSO:Textile materials are treated with liquids containing furfuryl alcohol or its homologues, esters, ethers, or salts.
