586,728. Rolling-up dough. THORNTON, A. A. (Interstate Bakeries Corporation). May 24, 1944, No. 10057. [Class 87 (ii)] A flat strip 10 of dough, conveyed over a table 14 is gradually coiled up into a sandwich roll spiral, by a single oppositely-rotated roller 28 so disposed obliquely, that the free edge 11 of the dough is at the bottom of the coil and becomes sealed by pressure against the table. A sweet spread may be first applied to the strip 10 and the edge 11 may be wetted to make a good seal. The endless conveyer belt 12 may be of canvas and the roll 28 may be similarly covered. The roller is mounted in self aligning bearings in a frame pivoted at 20 and its obliquity is adjustable by movement over an arcuate track 23 on which the outer end of the frame rests. The speed of the roller is adjusted through a gear box, and is substantially in excess of the linear speed of the dough strip. The outer end of the roller is adjustable up or down so as to give a wedge shaped space between itself and the table. The coil may be chopped up into sections by a cutter.
