586,708. Retractable undercarriages. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and CHAPLIN, H. E. Jan. 22, 1946, No. 2140. [Class 4] A retractable undercarriage which, in the form illustrated, is of the type in which the oleo leg a is retracted rearwardly by a knucklejointed strut h, the landing wheel e being rotated through a right-angle during the rearward movement to bring it into the general plane of the wing, is provided with a fairing formed in two portions s, t, the former of which is mounted on the lower part of the strut h and is shaped to close the recess in which the strut is housed, the - latter being mounted on the oleo leg a and shaped to enclose the leg-in its housed position and to fit against the portion s. The fairing t is of L-shaped section to form a blister closure for the leg, and its edges u which abut against the fairing s and the under - surface of the wing are provided with rubber beadings.
