586,657. Grinding milling cutters. BRAYSHAW FURNACES & TOOLS, Ltd., BRAYSHAW, S. N., and NEWMAN, F. C. Nov. 10, 1944, No. 22142. [Class 60] In an attachment for use in connection with a grinding machine for grinding milling cutters and similar tools, after the wheel and cutter positions have been fixed in relation to each other, the successive cuts or angular feeds are obtained by adjustment of a finger on the attachment, which finger engages the back of one of the teeth of the cutter, the finger being adjustable by means of a screw so that the cutter is rotated by adjusting the finger through a small angular distance. A finger A is pivotally mounted on a pin a<1> in the holder A<1> which is screwed on a pillar B and secured by grubscrew b<1>; the pillar B is supported by a bracket B<1> secured by bolt b to the table c of the grinding machine C. Adjustment of the finger to put on cut is effected by a screw E having a graduated head ; the finger is secured in adjusted position by clamping screw F. When grinding a spiral toothed cutter, the cutter D moves on the mandrel D<1>, the table and attachment remaining stationary ; alternatively, the table is traversed, in which case the attachment is carried by a fixed part of the machine.
