623,483. Pipe-cutting lathes and machines. SOC. ANON. DES ACIERIES CI-DEVANT G. FISCHER. May 1, 1947, No. 11783. Convention date, May 4, 1946. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] A pipe cutter has cutting tools 8, shown as wheel cutters, but which may be parting- tools, mounted on slides 7 guided in the cutter head and carrying oblique grooves 10 engaging oblique lugs on slides 12. The latter are actuated from a shaft 30 through worm gearing 25 rotating a screw 18 in a nut 19. An adjustable abutment 36 for the pipe end is mounted on a pivoted arm 32. In cutting a pipe, the gauge 36 is set and the pipe clamped in a vice 37. The cutter head is rotated by a shaft 17 and the cutters adjusted by the shaft 30. For cutting off long ends the gauge 36 is withdrawn and the arm 32 is slewed to inoperative position and an auxiliary gauge 41 is adjusted in line with the centre of the pipe.
