Abstract
586,244. Air-break switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Nov. 21, 1944, No. 23103. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1943. [Class 38 (v)] In a compressed air-blast high voltage circuitbreaker having a plurality of series-connected breaking gaps arranged on an insulator 11 common to them all, the different breaking gaps are in cylinders 5-7 mounted on the side of a central insulating column 12-14 so that each cylinder may be dismounted for inspection or repair without disturbing the other cylinders. The cylinders 5-7 are supported by metal members 8-10 which also separate the insulators 12-14. The gaps are opened by passing compressed air through insulator 11 to the upper face of contact pistons 27-29, at the same time opening valve 37 to atmosphere, so that the pistons are allowed to move downwards. To reclose the breaker, compressed air is passed through valves 37 and 42 to equalize the pressure on both sides of the pistons, which are then moved upwards by springs 43-45. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown), the valve 37 is replaced by three separate valves, one per breaking gap, which are actuated simultaneously.
