585,777. Refrigerating. CONSTANTINE, W. W. (General Motors Corporation). Nov. 28, 1944, No. 23668. [Class 29] The evaporator 26 of a refrigerating machine is fixed in the cabinet, and the refrigerant liquifying and circulating unit is detachably connected to the evaporator through pairs of valved couplings so as to be readily removable together with a capillary restrictor unit 48. As shown. applied to an ice-cream cabinet 12 with the machine compartment 16 alongside, the evaporator comprises a coil 26 secured to and extending around the walls of a liner 14 and terminating in stop valves 41, 44 located in a cavity 18 in the insulation having a removable cover 23 and filled with insulation 39. The valves 41, 44 are removably attached to further stop valves 42, 45 connected to the inlet of the compressor 28 and to the condenser 29 through the capillary restrictor 48 respectively. The machinery is carried on a bed plate 31 and can be removed bodily by removing the cover 23, taking out the insulation 39 and disconnecting the stop valves after closing them. For a domestic cabinet the machine is arranged beneath the food storage compartment and the evaporator is of the embossed sheet metal type fixed in the food compartment.
