Abstract
583,342. Electroplating. CALLENDERSUCHY DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and SUCHY, C. T. Oct. 19, 1944, No. 20275. [Class 41] Highly-porous material such as plaster is prepared for plating by a process comprising first impregnation with a non-conductive lacquer such as a solution of cellulose acetate or other cellulose derivative. The lacquer is then removed from the surface and from a chin layer beneath it by a solvent such as acetone or by abrasion with pumice or carborundum powder. The material is then treated with a metallic solution and a reducing agent so as to deposit metal on the surface and in a thin layer below it. The surface metal is then removed by brushing leaving metal in the layer below the surface on which layer metal is then deposited electrolytically. Cathodic connection is made to the article in the plating operation by hooks the extremities of which pass through the surface or by spring conductor clips under pressure sufficient to make contact with the metal beneath the surface.
