[Class 6 (i)] A broadcast seed sowing machine having an elongated seed box 1 is carried by supports 2 fixed to the front of a tractor 3, the land wheel 30 for driving the seed distributor being pivotally suspended from the box so that it is free to follow the contour of the ground. In the form shown, the seed distributor comprises a seed-expelling shaft 19 furnished at intervals with brushes 20, the brushes being located in proximity to apertures 18 spaced longitudinally along the seed box 1. The drive to the seedexpelling shaft 19 comprises a chain 27 passing around a sprocket 28 on the hub of the land wheel and a sprocket 25 mounted on a short countershaft 24 running in a bearing 23 fixed to the base of the seed box. A further chain 31 running over sprockets 26 and 32 completes the drive to the shaft 19. The countershaft bearing 23 together with a parallel bearing 36 constitute a pivot for a bifurcated structure, comprising connected arms 33, 34, in which is mounted the land wheel 30. By pulling on a rope 40, the tractor driver can raise the wheel out of contact with the ground. With the land wheel raised, the seed box and land wheel may be swung in a horizontal plane about a pivot pin located below the plate 9, into an oblique position relative to the tractor, for convenience in transport.
