Abstract

582,394. Hair curlers. SOUTHWICK, S. J. Oct. 6, 1944, No. 19170, [Class 131] A hair curler comprises a tubular metal stem 1, a metal strap 13 hinged to a U-shaped lug 3 formed on the stem, and an inextensible retaining member 7 of cord or the like. This member 7 is threaded through a spring 4 in the member 7 of cord or the like. stem 1 and anchored at one end to a washer 6, threaded through an abutment 5 and terminated in a cap 9 as shown. In use the tress of the hair is gripped between the stem and the strap and wound on the stem by rotating the latter. The wound tress is secured by the retaining member which is drawn out to permit the cap 9 to engage the open end 2 of the stem. A conical peg may replace the cap 9. In a modification, the strap 13 may comprise a cord anchored to one end 5 of the stem and attached to the spring at the other 8.
