Abstract

582,011. Snow ploughs. BULL, J. M., and BULL, J.K. March 20, 1944, No. 5173. [Class 107] A snow plough comprises a mouldboard or blade 11 tapered longitudinally and curved in the vertical direction, the blade having two or more reinforcing ribs 12 with fins 13 and slides 14, 15, movable vertically in housings 17, 19. The lower edge of the blade 11 may be reinforced as by a T-beam. The slide 15 has rack teeth engaged by a pinion 23 which may be rotated by a tommy drum 27 to adjust the blade vertically, a ratchet wheel 25 and pawl 26 then holding the blade assisted by screws 14a. The housings 17, 19 are carried by a frame comprising beams 29, 30, and side shafts 31, 32, and the frame may be secured across the front of a vehicle by a bolt 33 passed through guides 35 on the frame and guides 34 on a hinged plate secured to the vehicle. The side shafts 31, 32, are slidable in sockets 37 fixed to the vehicle and provided with rearwardly diverging bores to allow tilting, compression springs acting on the rear of the side shafts 31, 32, to prevent concussion. A side blade 40 is secured to the end of the blade 11.
