- i This invention relates object to provide a ski which may be quickly transformed into a snowshoe.
Another object of the invention is to provide in a ski hinged side wings which may be used as a snowshoe for hill climbing.
A further object of the invention is to provide a twoe-in-one combination of a ski and snowshoe. Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent; from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawthereof hinges l4 and I5, snowshoesections Hand H,
which may be let down on a common plane with that of the ski or which may be held raised by means of straps I 8 and It. The ski is provided with the usual turned-up end 20, foot support 2|, and foot'strap 22. The strap I8, is secured to the outer frame 23, of the member l6, and a strap I9, is secured at 24, to the outer frame'member 25, of they wing l1, and the straps are connected by a buckle 28, in order that the wings may be drawn up to vertical position and so fastened when the device is to be used as a ski.
'However, when the device is to be used as a snowshoe the buckle 28, is to be loosened to allow the wings l8 and IT, to drop to a common horizontal plane with the .ski member l2, and the.
centrally pivoted steel straps 21 and 28, are turned transversely of the ski, to engage both frame members, forwardly and rearwardly thereof and fastened down securely by the wing nuts 29 and 80, thus holding the members It and H, in rigid horizontalposition. 1 When the device is used 'as a ski. the straps are pivoted to longitudinal positions on the ski, as indicated in dotted lines and the nuts. tightened. v
With my above described device hill climbing,
moving over even slight inclines will be greatly to skis and has for an i I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters of a snowshoe, and means for holding the wings I able to e much faster time in traveling over rough country than can possibly be done th eitherskis or snowshoes, as on level ground ,or
' going down inclines the ski alone may be used.
but in climbing even slight inclines the combine. tion can be used to great, advantage and in going down a hill the man with only snowshoes would be left very far behind.
. It is thought that persons skilled in the artto which the invention relates will be able to obtain .a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawing. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary. Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which Patent is:
1. In a device as described a ski and'wings hingedly connected to the sides thereof, said wings being in the form of a longitudinal half in raised position.
,2. In a device as described a ski and win s hingedly connected to the sides thereof, and said wings being in the form of a longitudinalhalf of a snowshoe.
3. A device as described including a ski, and
wings hinged to each side thereof and pivotal means on the ski for holding the wings in horizontal position, said means'consisting of rigid straps adapted to overreach the outer edges of the wings saidwings being netted, and means for holding said straps parallel with the ski.
' 4. A device as described including a ski, and
wings hinged; to each side thereof and pivotal means on the ski for holding thewings in hori- 'zontal positiomsaid means consisting of rigid straps adapted to overreach the outer edges of the wings, and said wings being netted.
5. A device as described including a ski, and wings hinged to each side thereof and pivotal means on the ski forholding the wings in horizontal position, andsaid means consisting of rigid facilitated as the user has the advantage of a saved much exertion and fatigue.
With my ski-shoe combination a wearer will be straps adapted to overreach the outer edges of the wings.
e. A device as described including a ski, and
wings hinged to each side thereof and pivotal .means on the ski for holding the wings in horizontal position.
