Abstract

459,395. Vehicle doors. BENSON I MOTOR BODY CO., Ltd., and BISSELL, J. E., Roebuck Street, West Bromwich. Oct. 23, 1935, No. 29220. [Class 108 (i)] In tail boards which are hinged so as to be capable of being swung about either their upper or lower edges j the tail board comprises a flap portion, a pair of arms pivoted on a common transverse axis to the lower rear end of the body, releasable means for securing the arms to the body with their free ends uppermost, a rigid cross-bar extending transversely and supported in the free ends of the arms, and the flap portion being adapted to swing about said cross-bar. A bar 8 supported in brackets 9 on the body member 10 has rotatably mounted on its extremities, arms 11 which are releasably secured to the body sides 5 by lugs 13 and pegs 14. The upper free ends of the arms or pillars 11 carry a transverse bar 16 upon which is hinged, by means of straps 18, the flap portion 7. Levers 20, 27 secured to the bar 8, are adapted by means of the handle 23 to press on. the flap portion and together with stops 22 keep the flap portion in the plane of the arms. To allow the flap portion to swing about its upper pivot the levers 20, 27 are withdrawn while it may swing about its lower pivot by releasing the arms or pillars 11. The bar 16 may be mounted in crutches at the free ends of the arms 11 when it is desired to make the flap portion detachable. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the arms 11 are mounted on pivots 31 secured by brackets 32 to the body 10 while the flap portion 7 is retained in the plane of the arms 11 by lugs 33, pin 34 and cotter 36.
