Abstract

[Clas 65 (i)] A door check comprises a dash-pot 10 fixed vertically to the door with its plunger notched at one side to engage a helical flange 8 on an arcuate bracket 4 fixed to the door frame with its centre on the hinge axis, so that as the door is opened the plunger is lifted in its cylinder. In the form described the plunger is dumb-bell shaped, and its upper head is provided with an oil filler-hole, while the lower head has a leakage passage through it which is partially closed by a pointed valve member, upstanding from the bottom of the cylinder, when the door is nearly closed. The cylinder is adjustable vertically on a bracket fixed to the door. If automatic closing of the door is required, an arm 11 is provided on the upper end of the cylinder and a tension spring is arranged between the end of this arm and a pin 9 on the bracket 4. If the door is required to open more than 90 degrees, the spring 29 may be attached, as shown, to one arm of bell-crank 27 carried by the arm 11, a secord, prelerably stronger, spring 30 being arranged between the other arm of the bell-crank and a lug on the arm 11.
