Abstract

581,239. Skiving-machines. UNSTEAD, H. J. April 13, 1945, No. 9205. [Class 31 (i)] A skiving-machine of the kind in which materials such as boot soles are fed by rollers 7, 8 to a cutting - knife 9 is constructed to cut skivers of adjustable length without alteration of the position of the rollers in relation to the knife. For this purpose the work is guided to the cutter 9 by means of a gauge comprising a horizontal guide 1 and a vertical guide 2 which is used for cutting skivers from men's soles. A further guide 12 which can be swung about a pivot 14 is placed in front of the guide 2 for dealing with smaller articles such as ladies' soles, and more than one additional guide as 12 may be used. The guides are secured in position by a screw 5 passing through a slot 4 in the rear part of the guide. The guides may be formed with inclined fronts 11, Fig. 2 not shown, to permit of skivers of greater width being cut, and registering guides may be formed on the inclines 11.
