Abstract

501,447. Heel-seat-fitting machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and HAZELTON, G. July 27,1937, No. 20697. Addition to 495,437. [Class 17 (i)] Machines of the kind described in Specifications 306,192, 310,822, and 331,934, [all in Class 17 (i)], wherein a pair of knives, spaced widthwise of a shoe positioned in the machine, bevel the side margins of the sole, are provided with improved mechanism of the kind described in Specification 495,437 for measuring the heel widthwise connected to means for varying the spacing of the knives so that the tongue left is proportionate to the width of the heel. The slides 53, described in the prior Specifications as centring the heel and clamping it at its two sides in the heel measuring device, are used for the setting of the knives. One of the slides actuates a rack 91 gearing with a pinion rotating with a spur-wheel 99 gearing with a rack 101 provided with a wedge block 103 co-operating with an adjustable screw 109. This screw is carried by one of the knife and crease plate carrying slides described in the prior Specifications as advanced by a treadle rod. The screw thus serves as a stop for the inward movement of the slides, when they have reached the distance apart determined by the width of the heel. Specification 494,151 also is referred to.
