581,083. Proofing permeable materials. LUMSDEN & MACKENZIE, Ltd., and GARRETT, C. March 20, 1944, No. 5176. [Class 1401 [Also in Group XXV] Rope and cordage are rendered buoyant in water by first extracting fatty, waxy or oily matter therefrom by means of an organic solvent such as petroleum benzene, pure benzene, ether, carbon tetrachloride, trichlorethylene or tetrachlorethane; removing the solvent and then impregnating the rope or cordage with an emulsion of fatty or waxy matter in water containing a dispersion agent and drying by heat to separate the dispersion and stabilize the fatty or waxy matter in the rope. Fibres or yarns may be similarly treated and then formed into rope.
