Abstract

581,079. Vehicle lamps. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and BAKER, A. D. March 30, 1945, No. 8120. [Class 75 (iv)] To minimise glare to an approaching driver the bulb holder b of a vehicle lamp is retracted to move the filament c behind the focus of the parabolic reflector a and a segmental refractive element e arranged in front of the bulb is swung on its pivot f to a position above the bulb to deflect the upper half of the light beam downwardly. The bulb holder and refractive element may be operated mechanically by the driver through a Bowden cable or fluid connection, or electrically as in Fig. 2 where spring-loaded armature h of an electromagnet j is secured to the holder b and is attached by a link m to the element e. A sheet metal screen g may be fixed in front of the element e.
