Abstract

<PICT:0581003/III/1> In the manufacture of hydrocyanic acid by passing a mixture containing nitric oxide and a hydrocarbon over a granular catalyst 10, the latter is supported on a spiral or grid 7 of stainless steel tubing. This may be set in a ring 6 of refractory material connecting two frustro-conical members 1, 2 constituting the reaction chamber. The lower member may be made of aluminium p and cooled, as described in Specification 570,208. The process may be as described in Specification 446,277.
