Abstract
In the manufacture of hydrocyanic acid by the interaction of a gaseous hydrocarbon with a gaseous nitrogen compound (e.g. nitric oxide or ammonia) in the presence of a granular catalyst as described in Specification 581,003, the fluid-cooled spiral or grid supporting the catalyst is made of steel tubing other than stainless steel tubing. Suitable steels are plain nickel, molybdenum or chromium steels, but mild steel is preferably employed. Specifications 446,277 and 570,208 also are referred to.
