Abstract

569,687. Nitric acid. KALOUS, M. J. July 14, 1943, No. 11456. [Class 1 (ii)] In absorbing nitrogen oxides contained in gases by passage under a pressure not exceeding nine atmospheres in progressive stages in contact with nitric acid of decreasing strength from, say 60 per cent to very weak acid or water, a temperature of between 40‹ C. and 100‹ C. is employed in one or more stages where the acid strength is not more than 40 per cent whilst in other stages in which the acid strength is not greater than 40 per cent, the temperature is below 40‹ C. The stages employing the higher and lower temperature may alternate.
