Abstract
1306581 Nitric acid PINTSCH BAMAG AG 20 Feb 1970 [28 Feb 1969 16 Jan 1970] 8391/70 Heading C1A Nitric acid having a concentration greater than 70% by weight is prepared by passing oxides of nitrogen obtained by the oxidation of ammonia with air into a degasification zone in which wash nitric acid is degassed by said gases, passing the resulting gases enriched with oxides of nitrogen into an absorption zone in which said gases are contacted with nitric acid of not more than 40% by weight concentration, passing the residual gases from the absorption zone through a washing zone whilst maintaining substantially the same pressure as in the absorption zone, heating the wash acid obtained from the sump of the washing zone so that the wash acid is degassed at a higher temperature than the temperature of the acid in the washing zone, freeing nitric acid from the sump of the absorption zone from dissolved oxides of nitrogen by passing a secondary supply of air therethrough in a second degasification zone, and withdrawing at least part of the resulting acid as acid of concentration greater than 70% by weight.
