Abstract

580,650. Ratchet gearing. ANDERSON, A., and ANDERSON, BOYES, & CO., Ltd. April 27, 1944, No. 7877. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXI, XXVIII and XXIX] A coal-cutting machine is provided with hydraulically operated haulage gear mechanism including a ratchet feed device comprising two single acting plungers 36 connected by rods 37 to an oscillating lever 38 which, through links 39, 62 and 40, 61, oscillate alternately acting pawls 41, 42, to drive a ratchet wheel 43. To permit de-tensioning of the haulage rope under control of the respective motor a hand lever 63, Fig. 4, is provided, rocking of the lever causing cams 64, 65, 60 to act through spring-pressed fingers 66, 67, Fig. 3, to disengage pawls 41, 42, alternately to permit reverse rotation of the ratchet wheel.
