Abstract

580,564. Prism mountings. AVIMO, Ltd., and STEVENS, H. C. M. March 9, 1944, No. 4447. [Class 97 (i)] A prism mounting comprises a bracket adapted to be rotatably mounted in a housing and to carry the prisms in contact with one of its side faces, and clamping pieces attached to the bracket for holding the prisms in position, the whole forming an independent unit. As shown, the bracket has a base a above a spigot d which enters a socket in the housing e and also has a vertical portion b having a flat face on one side and a hollow boss c on the other to accommodate a field lens. The prism g is held in position by four clamping pieces k, k<1>, k<2>, k<3>, which are secured to the portion b and to each other by screws m and n. The upper end of the bracket is secured in the housing by a screw w which passes through a spider t fixed to the housing by screws u and final angular adjustments may be made by screws engaging a pin s mounted eccentrically to the spigot d. Soft metal pads are inserted between the prism and the metallic faces to avoid fracture. The main adjustments may be made before the mounting is fitted into the housing.
