Abstract

The piperidino-ethanol ester of di-n-butyl acetic acid which has pronounced cramp-relieving properties, may be prepared according to the hereinafter described methods. The halides, esters or anhydride of di-n-butyl acetic acid may be reacted in the presence of absence of condensation agents with piperidino-ethanol, or salts of the acid may be reacted with reactive esters of piperidino-ethanol, for example, esters with halogen hydracids or aryl sulphonic acids. A further method consists in converting the di-n-butyl acetic acid into its halogen-ethyl ester and reacting the latter with piperidine. The halogen ethyl ester may be prepared by reacting the acid, its halides, esters or anhydride with an ethylene halogen hydrin in the presence or absence of condensation agents, or by reacting salts of the acid with ethylene dihalide or ethylene halogen hydrin and replacing the hydroxyl group present in the compounds obtained by the latter method by halogen. The basic ester is water soluble in the form of its salts with inorganic or organic acids. In examples: (1) di-n-butyl acetic acid chloride is reacted with piperidino ethanol to give the desired ester; (2) di-n-butyl acetic acid chloride is reacted with ethylene chlorhydrin in the presence of pyridine and the b -chloroethyl ester of the dibutyl acetic acid so obtained is reacted with piperidine to give the desired piperidineethyl ester. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes also the preparation of piperidino ester of di-n-butyl acetic acid by reacting the acid with reactive esters of piperidino ethanol in the presence or not of acid binding agents. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
