Abstract

580,188. Gauges. GREEN, A, June 15, 1944, No. 11445. [Class 106 (ii)] In an instrument for measuring the dimensions of workpieces comprising a measuring element mounted for rectilinear movement by operating means associated with an indicator, the element is operated by a flexible band secured to it and engaging the periphery of a disc to which it is also secured so that rotation of the disc moves the measuring element and operates' an indicator. In Fig. 2, the piece 48 to be measured is arranged between centres and is contacted diametrally by gauging pins 53, 54. The pin 53 is associated with a pressure indicator 50 and is mounted in a stationary member 49. The pin 54 is mounted in a block 55 which may be clamped by a screw 56 to the upper part 16 of a reciprocating member having a lower part 15 arranged to slide on a guide 14. The part 16 may be adjusted relative to the part 15 by the screw 17. Drums 22, 23 mounted on a spindle 21 carry oppositely wound flexible bands 24, 25 secured to the part 15. The spindle is geared to an indicator and an operating knob. In Fig. 3, a workpiece 66 provided with a thread, the pitch of which is to be measured, is arranged between centres 60, 65 mounted in blocks 62, 55 adjustably mounted on the parts 16, 15 of the reciprocating member. The thread is engaged by a stylus 58 associated with a dial gauge 59.
