Abstract

A dielectric having a temperature coefficient of capacitance between plus 50 and minus 250 per million per degree C., comprises 60-99.8 per cent of magnesia and titania in proportions between 5 : 1 and 1 : 3, and small quantities of one or more of the oxides of calcium, barium, strontium. When added singly, the amounts are respectively, calcium oxide 0.8-6 per cent, strontium oxide 0.2-5 per cent, barium oxide 0.5-15 per cent. An example of the oxides used together is calcium oxide 0.75 per cent, strontium oxide 0.15 per cent, barium oxide 0.4 per cent. Graphs and examples are given showing the decrease in the coefficient with increased additions of the oxides. The magnesia must be in a form to produce magnesium titanate, and may be fused magnesia, magnesium hydroxide, magnesite, or precipitated carbonate. The titania may be rutile, anatase or mixtures. The alkaline earth oxides may be added as carbonates, sulphates, titanates or other combinations. The composition may also contain fluxes and plasticisers.
