Abstract
Coloured pattern effects are produced on textile materials made of or containing an organic derivative of cellulose by locally applying thereto a paste containing an acid dye, a lower aliphatic alcohol capable of exerting a swelling or softening action upon cellulose acetate, and an inorganic thiocyanate used as a swelling agent for the cellulose derivative, and thereafter washing and drying the materials. The paste may also contain an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing up to four carbon atoms. Specified acid dyes are Xylene milling blue GL, Polar red G, Pontacyl brilliant blue 2R, Sulphonine red B and Guinea green BA. Specified alcohols are methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, sec-butyl, tert.-butyl, n-amyl, sec.-amyl and tert.-amyl alcohols. Specified inorganic swelling agents are sodium, potassium and ammonium thiocyanates. Specified aliphatic acids are acetic, propionic and butyric acids. The pattern effects obtained are fast to soaping, to light and to acid fading and free from halos, flushing and marking off. In an example, a cellulose acetate fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing Xylene milling blue GL, ethyl alcohol, sodium thiocyanate, gum tragacanth and acetic acid and the print is washed, soaped and dried at 110 DEG C.
