Abstract

579,341. Optical - projection apparatus; film cameras. WOOD, A. F., and BRITISH SOLENOIDS, Ltd. Jan. 29, 1945, No. 1655/44. [Classes 97 (i) and 98(i)] A film gate, particularly for use in projecting still pictures from a strip film, comprises an apertured frame 1 and a carriage adapted to be reciprocated to draw the film over the aperture, the carriage comprising spaced plate members 5, 7 accommodating between them a claw member 6 having one or more resilientlydisposed claws 14<11> adapted to engage in the film perforations in one direction of movement and to trail over them in the other. As shown, an apertured plate 2 secured to the front of the frame 1 carries at each vertical edge strips forming guides 13 for the edges of the rear plate 5 of the carriage. The claw member 6 is of inverted U form and is provided at the top with a lug 10 which engages in a slot in the front plate 1 to form a hinge connection. Triangular claws 14<11> on each limb of the claw member extend through corresponding slots 18<11> in the frame members 1, 2 at the sides of the gate aperture, and are pressed into engagement with the film by leaf springs 11<11> in the carriage. At the top of the stroke the claws ride up ramps 19<11> which move them out of contact with the film so that it can be moved by rotation of the sprocket 22". The carriage is moved down- - wardly by the thumb-press 16 and returned by springs 27<11>.
