[Class 98 (i)] Photographic recording, reproducing, copying or enlarging apparatus for use with films includes for the purpose of maintaining the film plane in the picture window, means which engage the film strip only at the two edges and pull it' tight laterally. In Fig. 1, as the door 7 is closed the teeth 3 carried by the spring 4 engage in the perforations in the film 2 and stretch it flat in the picture window of the camera as the spring flattens. The spring may also be on the rear wall of the camera. In Fig. 3, the door 15 carries wedge-members 12, 13 pressed apart by the spring 14 and engaging a fixed row of teeth 8 and a spring-pressed row 9 which project through the perforations of the film 2 so that when the door is closed the teeth 9 are moved outwardly and stretch the film sideways. In the case of films without perforations the teeth 3 may be replaced by strips or studs of resilent material, e.g. rubber, and these strips or studs may be hollowed to allow them to adhere to the film by suction. In the case of roll-film cameras, means are provided which may be actuated from the winding-mechanism, for disengaging the tensioning means while the film is wound.
