Abstract
579,321. Barium carbide. BENNETT, J. G., and PIRANI, M. July 28, 1942, Nos. 10547/42, 15715/42 and 10014/43. [Class 1 ii)] Barium carbide is obtained by passing a mixture of barium oxide and carbon in the form of porous agglomerated masses continuously through a reaction zone heated to 1,600-1,650‹C. in the absence of nitrogen and while removing carbon monoxide from the reaction zone. The removal may be effected by a stream of inert gas such as hydrogen. Specifications 549,142, [Group V], and 579,324, [Group XII], are referred to.
