574,776. Catalysts. BOOTH, N., and JOLLEY, L. J. Sept. 18, 1942, No. 13165. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group XII] A mixture of ferric oxide and sodium carbonate is subjected to a reduction treatment at high temperature with a gas containing hydrogen, and is used as a catalyst for the conversion of the sulphur compounds present in combustible gases such as coal gas, producer gas and water gas to hydrogen sulphide at a temperature of 300‹C.. In an example, the ferric oxide-sodium carbonate mixture is heated to 500 ‹C. for 1¢ hours in a stream of hydrogen.
