1310050 Carbonized sponge iron TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT CHERNOIMETALLURGII IMENI I P BARDINA 11 Nov 1970 53623/70 Heading C7D A ferruginous material is heated to at least 800‹C. in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, and one or more hydrocarbons blown through in the form of vapour or liquid in gas suspension until the product contains 25 parts by weight of carbon per 75 parts of iron; the hydrocarbons are selected from propane, butanes and hydrocarbons which are liquid at atmospheric pressure and 20‹ C., kerosene and benzene being preferred.
