Abstract
513,006. Coking processes. INSTITUTION OF GAS ENGINEERS, SOUTH METROPOLITAN GAS CO., and EVANS, E. V. March 29, 1938, No. 9569. [Class 55 (i)] Coal is heated through the temperature range in which it normally becomes plastic at such a rate of temperature, and in the presence of a current of gas or vapour, that oily matters are removed, and coking is prevented. Examples show that a coking coal may be heated through a temperature range of 375‹-400‹C. at the rate of 4‹C. rise per hour, while steam is passed at the rate of 570 lb./ton/hr.; that a less strongly coking coal may be heated at the rate of 100‹C. rise per hour and steam passed at the rate of 5,000 lb./ton/hr.; and that hydrogen at a pressure of 30 atmospheres may be used.
