Abstract

1386538 Isoprene and isoamylene K E KHCHEYAN O M REVENKO and M P TIKHONOVA 3 Aug 1973 36902/73 Heading C5E Isoprene and isoamylene-1 are produced by reacting isobutylene with a C 1 -C 3 alkane at 600-800‹ C. in the presence of oxygen or air, as initiating agent, in amount 1-20 wt. per cent (as O 2 ) of the reaction mixture. The preferred alkane is methane and the molar ratio of isobutylene : alkane may be 1 : 3 to 1 : 8. An inert diluent such as N 2 , argon, CO 2 or steam may be present. Propylene is produced as a byproduct.
