Abstract

579,166. Automatic guns. MOLINS, D. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Nov. 23, 1942, No. 16587. [Class 92 (i)] Relates to means for aligning the nose of a cartridge with the gun chamber as the base is being moved forwardly by a rammer such as that described in Specification 578,477. According to the present invention, the nose N first moves on to a yielding support in the form of a member 2 movable forwardly by rotation in the bearings of an axis pin 3 against the action of a torsion spring 7 to press the nose laterally against a reaction surface 1. The arrangement is such that the member 2 also moves downwardly against the compression of the spring 7 to cushion the nose of the round as it falls on to the upper concavity in the breech-block 5. A projection 13 on the block restores the parts when the breech-block moves to the closed position shown.
