Abstract

578,974. Clamps for fixing brooms to handles. WHEELER, J., and CHRISTIAN, A. E. May 16, 1944, No. 9340. [Class 61 (i)] A clamp for attaching stales &c. to brooms &c. comprises a pair of hinged sheet-metal jaws 1 and 2 adapted to grip the broom &c., and a socket 5 foi receiving the stale. The hinge is formed by pierced ears 3 and a hinge pin 4 which carries a tensioned spring 9, the opposite ends of the spring being connected to the jaws so that the spring tends to close them. The jaw 2 extends above the hinge pin to form a lever which, when the clamp is applied to a broom &c., abuts against the end of the stale and assists in securing it.
