Abstract
A nutritionally-desirable metallic compound such as a salt or iron, copper or cobalt, e.g., iron gluconate or a metallic iodide, or finely-divided metal, e.g., ferrum redactum, is dissolved or dispersed in water, the solution or dispersion is mixed with an absorbate in the form of a powder, e.g., flour or starch, which in the amount present in the final flour is non-injurious to health or to the baking properties of the flour, the suspension so formed is spray dried and the resulting powdery or granular concentrate is incorporated into a bulk of flour. When more than one adjuvant is employed, one adjuvant may be incorporated into one absorbate and the other adjuvant or adjuvants into another absorbate or absorbates. Apparatus for preparing (a) a concentrate and (b) a concentrate having an overcoating of flour are similar to those described in Specifications 578,624 and 578,626. Specifications 15475/08, [Class 49], 348,029 and 517,348 also are referred to.
