Abstract
Seed diseases are controlled and storage rot in tubers prevented by treatment with preparations containing monochlor - mononitrophenols or their water-soluble salts. In examples: (1) for the control of bunt, wheat is treated with a powder consisting of a mixture of 2 - chloro - 4 - nitro - phenol and 2 - chloro - 6 - nitro-phenol (the nitration product of o-chlorophenol) with china clay and mineral oil; (2) for the control of leaf stripe, barley is treated with a powder consisting of the sodium salt of the mononitration product of o-chlorophenol mixed with talc and mineral oil; (3) seed potatoes are dipped in an aqueous solution of the sodium salt of the mononitration product of o-chlorophenol, which may contain a wetting-agent; (4) for the control of leaf stripe oats is treated with a powder consisting of a mixture of the mononitration product of p-chlorophenol (mainly 4-chloro-2-nitrophenol) with china clay and mineral oil.
